How to use 
Print the pages with plain white grids.  Each square in the grid contains a year 1/2 common exception word. Children colour the squares according to how many syllables or how many vowels the word has and reveal a hidden picture!
 
How does it help children learn the spellings?
The syllable mosaics require children to split the word into its syllables which can be a highly effective method of learning how to spell a word.
 
The vowel mosaics require children to count how many vowels the word has which encourages them to look closely at each letter in the word and for any letter patterns.
 
Children will also need to look carefully in each mosaic for any incorrect spellings because they have a colour of their own!
